Kumquat

Kumquat is a small, oval-shaped and orange fruit from the citrus family. It usually has a sweet and sour flavor and the rind is edible.

The kumquat originates from Asia and is cultivated mainly in China and Japan. Despite its small size, the tree is quite hardy and is often grown for decorative purposes in gardens. The kumquat tree likes warm climates, but it also has a certain resistance to cold temperatures. Thanks to this characteristic, it can be easily grown in tropical and subtropical regions.

Kumquat is the only citrus fruit that can be eaten with its peel and flesh. The rind is sweet and the flesh offers a more sour flavor profile, making it attractive for those who want a balance between sweet and sour. This fruit can be eaten fresh or used in many different products such as jams, marmalades, liqueurs and desserts. In Chinese cuisine in particular, kumquats are an important aromatic ingredient in dishes and desserts.
